At Kumataka Dojos we practice Shorin-ryu Seibukan Karate-do. Shorin-ryu is one of the original styles of Okinawan karate. We are students of Shimabukuro Zenpo Sensei, Hanshi, 10th Dan. We travel to our Hombu Dojo, in Chatan, Okinawa regularly for training. Our instructors are members of the International Okinawan Shorin-ryu Seibukan Karate-do Association (IOSSKA).
Okinawan karate has a dual focus on the practice of self-defence techniques, alongside the polishing of one’s mind and body. In this sense it is true budo. That is, a vehicle for the development – and unification – of all human faculties, as well as the tempering of one’s attitude. The ultimate outcome is that practitioners become both strong and compassionate, capable of defending themselves as well as being able to contribute to society in a positive manner.
Our karate lineage looks like this:
Kyan Chotoku -> Shimabukuro Zenryo -> Shimabukuro Zenpo -> Wojtek Bagadzinski/Peter Williams
